Vinita & Vikaas Passary were among the first people I met and got to know as professional acquaintances when we moved to Hyderabad almost two decades back. The couple was finding their wings in a new city (they had moved in barely a couple of years ago ), Vinita as a fashion entrepreneur & Vikaas as a restaurateur. I’m glad to report that both have carved out their distinct identities and been damned successful too. It was with a feeling of belonging and pride therefore that I was witness to the couple unwrapping their latest offerings to Hyderabad, Vinita with the first standalone store of Translate @ikatindia in Hyderabad, and it’s third store pan India after Mumbai (Kala Ghoda) and Delhi (Khan Market). It felt great to have met up with Bengaluru based designer Chandrashekhar (@metaphor_studio) who partners Ikat India with Vinita & kudos and congrats to the duo for having given the staid Pochampally ikat a contemporary makeover and making it smart, vibrant & wearable. The launch was highlighted by a loom table initiative where all assembled guests (mostly media that day) tried their hand weaving the loom with “Kathrans” or scraps in the most vivid shades . Okay, the other reason to celebrate that day was Vikas’s completely woke coffee store @naadcoffee.in using indigenous coffees of Indian origin & the bakes of which Hyderabad wouldn’t have seen before but that deserves a big fat post of its own.
