I have been witnessing the adulation chef Meera aka @vankayakura_n_tales has been showered by the world of foodies, online & offline, since a while now. But somehow I would always miss her pop ups be it at the Culinary Lounge or other five star hotels. So it was with some gratitude that I accepted Trident Hyderabad’s invite to Telugu Thali tales, a pop up curated by chef Meera at Kanak, their much-awarded Indian speciality restaurant, running for lunch & dinner until November 21st. The format is simple: thete are 2 thalis, vegetarian and meat/sea food and I obviously chose the latter. As expected, or rather much above my expectations was chef Meeras food, Simple, understated and staying true to the original recipe. An architect by profession, Meera is a passionate home chef who stirs up dishes down to the most authentic detail. Be it the crunchy Pottu Minapappu Vada (Wadas made of whole black lentil) or the Tawa Chepu (Tawa fried fish) or the Chukkakura Pappu, Mukkala Pulusu (a tangy-sweet vegetable stew using tamarind and jaggery, light & delicious!) and the Royyalu Iguru (Andhra style fried prawns), every dish was spot on, as far as the tastebuds are concerned. And the final cherry on the top of course was the trio of traditional desserts , Junnu (scrumptious to the core), Bobbatlu and Pootharekulu, or rice paper roll filled with coconut & jaggery). I would recommend this pop up to anyone who loves Telugu cuisine and the elegant interiors of Kanak elevate the culinary experience! 💜
