If you had mentioned Emilia Romagna before I visited Ottimo , the Italian speciality restaurant of @itckohenur it would have been just Latin & Greek to me. That by the way is the northern parts of Italy and is also the name of the Italian food pop up currently running at the fabulous warm space of Ottimo, with its lively open kitchen and stunning views of a well lit Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge and beyond. Thats the beauty of food pop ups, they introduce you to cuisines of places you have not visited before. Emilia Romagna is home to several epicurean ingredients such as Parmesan cheese (Parmigiano Reggiano) and Mortadella Bologna known for its cured pork and other cold cuts, and aged balsamic from the region of Modena. The very first dish Parmesan Brûlée served with sourdough and wild Berry arugula salad scored a hit with everyone at the table, no prizes for guessing why with the best Parmigiano cheese being baked just like it’s dessert counterpart, the Creme brûlée with a custard texture and every bite a divine mouthful ! Also loved the Celeriac and chestnut tortellini and the Potato Gnocchi. The antipasti charcuterie had the best of pork cold cuts and cheeses from the Romagna region , the pizzas were also hearty and rustic with fresh porcini and Parmigiano but it was the Lasagna Al Ragout Bolognese which was the masterpiece, classic lamb lasagna baked in a hearth oven, a signature special of Bologna, the historic capital of Emilia Romagna. The Torta Barozzi, a flourless decadent chocolate and nut torte served with a quenelle of cinnamon and orange gelato proved to be a fitting finale to a splendid meal. There’s a good listing of Italian wines and justice was done with several rounds of white wine sangria. Emilia Romagna will be on for dinner on an a la carte menu at Ottimo until August 15th. If you want to try out some offbeat Italian cuisine from the culinary-rich regions of Italy, this is your moment. Thank you chef @aparchatterjee for taking us through the intricacies of this novel, rarer Italian cuisine.
