You may not know this but Hi Life Cafe is the oldest English breakfast cafe in Dehradun. Yes, and I used to visit it regularly since the time I came here in 2016. What a legacy, honestly because 10 years later when I see it, they just haven't changed a bit. Tucked on Dhakpatti, Old Rajpur Road, the Hi Life heritage building is renamed as @amdo.cafe now. The English breakfast here still hits different like it always did. Fluffy eggs, crispy bacon rashers, sausages, hash browns, grilled tomatoes, toast. Simple, classic, and most importantly extremely sasta. Just ₹250/-. I mean, this is a steal deal in the market right now, very competitive. But what truly surprised me? The jasmine tea + carrot cake combo. Light, fragrant, and perfectly balanced, freshly prepared (no tea bags, yes you heard it right). The space carries an understated old world charm reflecting a mix of Tibetan and North Bengal architecture style, lantern-lit corners, Dalai Lama quotes, dilapidated wooden textures, the kind of place that slows time. These food memories instantly took me back to my BSc-MSc Geology days when we used to take a bus ride from Suddhowala to Ghantaghar and then a Vikram ride from Astley hall to Rajpur chowk. This isn’t just another cafe. It’s a history book in itself. There are many new cafes emerging and closing in few months or years but these timeless destinations stands the test of time.
