Nanking is among the oldest Chinese restaurants in Hyderabad, originally established in 1957 on Park Lane, Secunderabad by K. Y. Liu, who came to the city from Bombay. During the 1950s and 60s, Chinese restaurants were extremely rare in Hyderabad. Nanking quickly became popular among Secunderabad cantonment officers, local business families, and diners curious to try something different from traditional Indian cuisine. It was not uncommon for people to queue up even for lunch. Over the decades, the restaurant built a loyal following for its simple interiors, consistent flavours, and classic Chinese dishes adapted to Indian tastes.
