Dana Choga. The name itself brings back a flood of memories for any Delhiite worth their salt. It's an institution, a place where generations have gone to get their fill of butter chicken, dal makhani, and all the other unctuous delights that define north Indian cuisine. So when I heard they were launching a special Navratra Menu at their Dana Choga Reserve location, my journalistic curiosity, and frankly, my appetite, were piqued. Now, a Navratra menu is a delicate dance. You're working within strict constraints, but you still have to deliver flavour, substance, and a sense of occasion. It's a culinary tightrope walk, and I was eager to see how Dana Choga would fare. The Navratra Thali The main event is the Navratra Special Thali, and at a very reasonable INR 425, it's an absolute steal. The moment it arrived, a beautiful, sprawling spread of fasting-friendly food, I knew I was in for a treat. The star of the thali, for me, was the Paneer Tamatri. This wasn't your run-of-the-mill cottage cheese curry. The paneer was soft, almost cloud-like, and the tomato-based gravy was tangy, robust, and had a depth of flavour that you rarely find in Navratra fare. It was a proper, well-thought-out dish, not an afterthought. Then there were the Singhare ki Poori. These aren't your puffy, golden-brown globes. They're dense, earthy, and have a unique flavour that is entirely their own. Paired with the Jeera Aloo, potatoes tempered with cumin seeds that were perfectly cooked, it was a comforting and familiar combination. The Aloo Paneer Cutlet, a delightful patty of fresh potato and cottage cheese, was another standout, crisp on the outside and wonderfully soft within. To cut through all that rich goodness, the Pineapple Raita was a stroke of genius. The sweet curd with chunks of fresh pineapple was a refreshing counterpoint, a little burst of sunshine in the midst of a very satisfying meal. The thali also came with a sweet note at the end—a Kesari Coconut Ladoo, a fitting and delicious finale.
