Nomai: A Hidden Gem of Pan-Asian Pleasures in Sector 70 Gurugram Tucked away in the lower ground floor of Elan Epic Mall, Sector 70, Gurugram — a mall so shiny and spotless you'd think it was built just yesterday — lies Nomai, a Thai-Chinese restaurant that surprised me with its ambition and sincerity. You might walk past it if you're not looking carefully, but that would be your loss, not theirs. I've long held the belief that good Asian food, especially of the Thai and Chinese persuasion, doesn't need to shout. It just needs to deliver — punchy flavours, balanced heat, textural contrast, and most importantly, honesty on the plate. At Nomai, I found all of that, and then some. Let's begin with the drinks, which were inventive, bordering on playful, yet refused to be gimmicky. The Bubble Peach Iced Tea came with popping boba pearls that burst like little fruit bombs — whimsical, refreshing, and ideal for a scorching Gurgaon afternoon. But if you like your mocktails with a touch of theatre, the Ko Tao is the way to go. Thai chilli, passion fruit, a squeeze of lime, a whisper of sriracha — this was a drink that flirted with you before giving you a gentle slap of spice. It was bold, but not brash. The Sunset mocktail was, well, as pretty as its name suggested. Orange and watermelon juices gently layered to create an ombré glow in a tall glass. A splash of soda kept it light, mint kept it fresh. Instagram would approve. And then came my favourite — the Thai Spice Mojito. A classic mojito walked through a Bangkok spice market and came out transformed. Lemongrass, Thai ginger, and kaffir lime leaves played lead roles, and the chilli gave it an edge I didn't know I needed. Think summer in a glass — but with a kick. The food, too, did not disappoint. I started with the Korean Style Chicken Pot, and let me tell you — it was as comforting as a warm hug on a rainy day. Sticky, slightly sweet, with just the right amount of heat, the chicken cubes were coated in a sauce that clung lovingly, studded with vegetables and a generous sprinkling of sesame. Nomai may be low-key in location, but it delivers a high note on flavour.
