Coral - A Culinary Oasis in Chattarpur's Embrace New Delhi, as we all know, is a city of delightful contradictions. A sprawling metropolis that somehow manages to retain pockets of serene grandeur. And it was to one such pocket that I journeyed yesterday: The Ocean Pearl Gardenia in Chattarpur. Now, Chattarpur might not immediately spring to mind when one thinks of refined indulgence, but The Ocean Pearl Gardenia, spread across a rather impressive three acres, certainly makes a compelling case for itself. Think spacious, air-conditioned comfort, the indispensable free Wi-Fi (a true sign of our times, wouldn't you agree?), and for those so inclined, an outdoor pool, fitness center, and even a beauty salon. All very civilised, all very much in keeping with the expectations of the discerning traveller. Coral: Where the Ocean Meets Old Delhi (and Beyond) But my purpose, dear reader, was not to admire the manicured lawns or test the waters of the swimming pool. No, my sights were firmly set on Coral, the multi-cuisine fine-dine restaurant nestled within this verdant expanse. The name, Coral, is rather clever, isn't it? Evoking images of vibrant marine life, of exotic depths. And the menu, I discovered, lives up to the promise. They speak of "seabed coral" varieties, and indeed, the culinary offerings are as diverse and intriguing as the underwater world. From the bounty of the sea (as one would expect given the name) to the robust, comforting flavours of North Indian and Mughlai cuisine, and even a nod to the "local delights," Coral truly attempts to cast a wide net. And cast it successfully, I might add. One often hears platitudes about "well-trained chefs" and "handpicked ingredients." Here, however, one senses a genuine commitment to these principles. The preparations were not merely competent; they possessed that subtle depth, that nuanced flavour that elevates a dish from sustenance to an experience. Each bite, whether a succulent piece of seafood or a perfectly spiced rendition of a classic, spoke of thoughtful preparation and a respect for the ingredients.
