IKI & GAI: Where Rebellion Tastes This Good There are times, dear reader, when one stumbles upon an establishment that defies easy categorization, a place that, much like a perfectly aged single malt, reveals its true character only after a careful sip, or in this case, a prolonged evening. My recent sojourn to IKI & GAI at Sangam Courtyard in RK Puram was precisely one such revelation. Now, one might dismiss it at first glance as merely another entrant in Delhi’s ever-burgeoning speakeasy scene. Indeed, the dim lighting, the hushed entrance, all the usual tropes are present. But to reduce IKI & GAI to a mere speakeasy would be akin to calling a Bentley just another car. It’s far more nuanced, far more audacious, and frankly, far more fun. The brainchild of Sarthak Batra, a man clearly unburdened by conventional wisdom and armed with a deep understanding of mixology, IKI & GAI is not a place you visit for a quiet, contemplative drink. Oh no. This is a place where you come to have a riot. It possesses the aesthetic of a speakeasy, yes, but it pulsates with an energy that’s anything but clandestine. This is where the rebellious spirit of the 1920s Prohibition era—where people were forced to hide their imbibing—is turned on its head. IKI & GAI is loud. It’s chaotic. And it’s unashamedly, gloriously fun. They’re not hiding anything here; they’re celebrating everything. What truly sets this place apart, and this is where it gets interesting, isn't primarily the décor, nor even the inventive drinks. It is, unequivocally, the team that runs it. This is, in every sense of the phrase, a Bartenders' Bar. Their passion, their energy, their sheer commitment to ensuring you have a memorable time, is palpable. It’s a refreshing change from establishments where the staff seem to be merely going through the motions. Here, there’s a genuine vibrancy, an infectious enthusiasm that elevates the entire experience. And then, there's the concept. Ah, the concept! This is where IKI & GAI truly veers into the delightfully eccentric. The mantra here is quite simply, "eat your drink and drink your food."
