Purani Dilli 2.0 at Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi — A Taste of Chandni Chowk Without the Chaos There are two kinds of people in Delhi. Those who go to Chandni Chowk to eat — braving the honking rickshaws, sweaty crowds, and tangled power lines. And those who wish they could, but would rather not risk their linen kurtas or their patience. For the second kind — and, let's be honest, the wiser among us — there is Purani Dilli 2.0 at Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi Airport. It's a curious thing when a luxury hotel attempts to replicate the chaos and character of Old Delhi's street food. Most get the façade right — throw in some brass serving ware, name-drop Paranthe Wali Gali, and call it a day. But at NYC, the all-day diner at Radisson Blu Plaza, they've gone several steps further. Here, the soul of Dilli 6 isn’t just referenced. It is reverently — and deliciously — recreated. Smells Like Old Delhi Spirit The second you walk into NYC during this festival (on till July 13, 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM), you’re greeted not by quiet table chatter but the unmistakable aroma of smoky tandoors, tangy chaat masalas, and ghee sizzling on a giant tawa. You hear the tak-tak-tak of paratha being slapped onto hot plates, the swoosh of a ladle stirring biryani, and the occasional nostalgic murmur from diners transported to childhoods spent licking kulfi off elbows in Dariba Kalan. What to Eat (Hint: Everything) You start light — or so you think — with Golgappas, lovingly assembled to order, dripping with spicy jaljeera. Then perhaps the Daulat ki Chaat, that mythical cloud of milk foam, sweetened air, and saffron. And just like that, you’ve been hooked. Next, come the big guns. The Khamiri Roti, warm and pillowy. The Mutton Korma, velvety with browned onions and a whisper of cardamom. The Butter Chicken, because yes, it may be cliché but here it’s done right — slow-cooked, not rushed, and unapologetically rich. The Biryani is, to use a food writer’s cliché, “fragrant” — but in this case, justifiably so. Each grain separate, each bite soaked in saffron, each aroma evoking Jama Masjid at dusk. The Verdict? Skip the scooter ride to Chandni Chowk. Let the flavours come to you.
