My journey began the moment I stepped inside Lord Elgin, a bar in Ludhiana with a captivating story and an even more impressive cocktail menu. I'd heard whispers about this place, a manor once owned by a British noble and a secret time traveler, Lord Elgin himself. The concept was so intriguing I couldn't resist. I had to see if the drinks were as magical as the tales. A Journey Through Time, One Drink at a Time The menu is a treasure map, each cocktail a portal to a different era and a different part of the world. It's a brilliant concept, and what a team they had to bring it to life! The cocktail showcase was curated by Gagan Sharma and Dhananjai Subramaniam from Induge India, and their passion for storytelling through mixology was clear in every detail. As I looked over the menu, I knew this wasn't going to be a simple "pick a drink" kind of night. Each concoction felt carefully crafted, telling a story of its time. * Fog Over Mayfair was my first stop. Made with Scotch Whisky, herbal liqueur, chocolate, cold brew, and a warm orange cream foam, it was a velvety, decadent sip that transported me to a cozy evening in Britain. The warmth of the foam and the rich flavors made it feel like a truly luxurious experience. * Next up was Island Fiesta, a vibrant mix of aged rum, gin, jerk spice tincture, banana liqueur, and ginger beer. It was a bold, spicy, and utterly refreshing taste of Jamaica. The jerk spice added a surprising and delightful kick that truly captured the spirit of a Caribbean celebration. * My final drink was Calcutta Smokehouse. This one was a true masterpiece of flavors: reposado tequila, mezcal, smoky black tea, and a Mishti Doi clarified wash. The smoky notes were beautifully balanced by the tangy sweetness of the clarified yogurt, a nod to the iconic Mishti Doi of Kolkata. It was a complex, surprising, and unforgettable drink. Other cocktails on the menu sounded just as incredible: Lord's Indulgence from Belgium, Hawker's Cup from China, Kyoto Bloom from Japan, and Lord in the Hills from Shimla. Each one promised a unique adventure, and I could already tell I’d be coming back to try them all.
