It was only a few days ago that I found myself in Palampur again, my third visit, a place I've always considered to be one of Himachal's best-kept secrets. While many flock to the bustling hill stations, Palampur has always retained a certain understated charm. It's a town that whispers rather than shouts, and its serene beauty is best savored slowly. This time, my visit was prompted by the opening of a new hotel, Fortune Park Palampur, and my curiosity was piqued. I wanted to see if this new establishment could capture the essence of Palampur while offering the modern luxuries that today's discerning traveler has come to expect. From the moment I arrived, I knew this was a place that understood its surroundings. The hotel is situated in the heart of the city, yet it feels completely secluded, offering breathtaking, panoramic views of the Dhauladhar ranges. It's a view that can make you forget the world, a canvas of green and grey that changes with the light. The check-in was seamless, a process that can often be a chore but here was handled with a quiet efficiency that was much appreciated. I was immediately struck by the warmth of the staff; a genuine smile greeted me at every turn. It's a small detail, but one that makes all the difference. My room, a Mountain View Suite with a Balcony, was a perfect blend of contemporary elegance and comfort. The balcony was, of course, the main attraction. There's nothing quite like sipping your morning tea or evening scotch while gazing at the mountains, the cool air crisp and clean. The itinerary for my stay was a thoughtful mix of relaxation and experience. My first day was spent settling in, with lunch and dinner at Barrel Island, the hotel's main dining venue. The food was excellent, a delightful mix of local flavors and familiar comforts. The hi-tea was a particular highlight, a perfect way to ease into the gentle rhythm of Palampur. The second day was all about indulgence. I started with an early breakfast, again at Barrel Island, and then spent the afternoon at the hotel's spa. A good spa session is a journey in itself, and this one was a wonderfully rejuvenating experience.
