Theatre, Served Hot: Starbucks Reserve Comes to Worldmark Aerocity There is an old joke I like to repeat, mostly because I believe it: for the people of Delhi, coffee is the bread. We do not merely drink it. We queue for it, debate it, photograph it, and increasingly, we travel across the city for it. So when I heard that Starbucks Reserve was opening its doors today at Worldmark Aerocity, I did what any self-respecting Delhi coffee obsessive would do — I went straight there. Let me get the numbers out of the way first, because they matter more than they might seem to. This is only the fifth Starbucks Reserve in the whole of India, and just the third in Delhi. Globally, there are around fifty of these stores. Fifty. In a world where a regular Starbucks seems to open on every second street corner, that scarcity is the whole point. A Reserve store isn't meant to be everywhere. It's meant to be an occasion. And an occasion it is. Walk in, and you understand immediately that this isn't a place to grab a flat white on your way to a meeting. It's a coffee bar in the truest, most theatrical sense — the kind of space where the coffee itself is the performance, and everything else is set dressing. The Art Wall That Tells You Where Your Coffee Has Been Right in the middle of this rather intimate store sits an Art Wall — a collection of coffee cards sourced from origins around the world. Each card carries the story of a small-lot coffee: where it was grown, who grew it, what made that particular harvest worth setting apart. I found myself lingering here longer than I expected to, reading these little biographies of beans the way one might read wine labels at a good cellar. It's a lovely piece of design, and more importantly, it does the job good design is supposed to do — it makes you slow down before you drink. Kati Kati: The Bean Worth the Trip The star of my visit, without question, was the Kati Kati blend — a marriage of Kenyan and Ethiopian beans from across Africa, handpicked and set aside for precisely this kind of customer, the one who wants something rare rather than something reliable. The Blonde Roast treatment is what makes this blend sing.
