Atmanam, Galleria Market: The Soul of South India, Two Blocks from Home There are restaurants you travel across the city for. And then there are the rare ones that open up practically in your neighbourhood, as if the universe decided you'd been patient long enough. When word spread that Atmanam was opening a new outpost in Galleria Market, Sushant Lok, I felt something close to relief. I'd visited their Elan Miracle Mall location in Sector 84 back in February, and the experience had stayed with me — not in the way dramatic meals do, with their theatre and their Instagram moments, but in the quiet, persistent way that honest food tends to. The kind of meal you find yourself thinking about on an unremarkable Tuesday evening when you're wondering what to eat. Galleria is practically my backyard. So when Atmanam arrived there, I didn't deliberate. I simply went. The name, for those unfamiliar with it, is drawn from Sanskrit and the Bhagavad Gita. Atmanam translates, roughly, to "the self" or "the soul." It's the sort of name that could easily tip into pretension in less careful hands. Here, it doesn't. The restaurant wears its identity with a certain earnestness that you sense almost immediately upon walking in. The ambience is warm, unhurried, designed not to impress but to settle you. There is no performance happening. Just the quiet suggestion that you slow down, breathe, and actually pay attention to what's on your plate. Ordering happens through a kiosk — a self-service model that Atmanam has adopted across its locations. It's a system that works cleanly, and I found myself appreciating its efficiency without missing the ceremony of table service. I placed my order, completed the checkout, and waited. The food, when it arrived, justified the patience. The Benne Dosas came first — crisp, buttery, their edges a deep, irresistible gold. A benne dosa done well is one of South Indian cuisine's most satisfying achievements, and Atmanam's version is done very well indeed. The butter isn't an afterthought here. It's integral, soaked into the structure of the dosa rather than merely applied to its surface.
