Tucked into the heart of Lutyens' Delhi, it has long been the city's drawing room—a place where power lunches happen over pasta, where book launches segue into wine bars, where the old guard and the new money find common ground over good coffee and better gossip. But for all its pedigree, the market has rarely produced a restaurant that felt truly alive after dark. Tranzit changes that. I'll confess: I approached my visit with the weary skepticism of someone who has seen too many "concept" restaurants arrive with fanfare only to fade into forgettable formula. Delhi loves a launch. It's less committed to longevity. But within minutes of stepping through Tranzit's doors, I realized this wasn't another flash-in-the-pan venture trading on location and Instagram lighting. This is Shivani Vardhan's vision—and if you know her work at KLAP and Aajuni, you know she doesn't do things by halves. Tranzit is her most ambitious project yet: a collaboration once again with Gurmehar Sethi, but this time with a canvas large enough to accommodate their full creative restlessness. The brief, I imagine, was simple: create a space that doesn't just serve Delhi, but reimagines what Delhi dining can be. The result is a restaurant that refuses to sit still. A Space That Breathes Spread across two floors with collapsible windows that blur the line between inside and out, Tranzit has that rare quality in Indian restaurants: it breathes. During the day, natural light floods the space, creating an airy openness perfect for the kind of leisurely lunch that stretches into mid-afternoon. The outdoor terrace catches the evening glow beautifully—Delhi light at its most forgiving. But the real magic happens after sunset. As evening settles, the restaurant transforms. Lighting deepens. Music builds. The energy shifts from convivial to kinetic. By the time night arrives, Tranzit has shed its daytime skin entirely and emerged as something else: a high-energy hub where the city's pulse becomes palpable. It's grand enough to feel significant.
