The Carnival Comes to Town There's something rather charming about the way Delhi's hotels approach the holiday season. The smarter ones understand that what we really want is an excuse to gather, to eat well, and to momentarily forget the chaos outside. Which brings me to Eros Hotel at Nehru Place, and their rather ambitiously titled "Carnival Affair" at Blooms, their all-day dining restaurant. Now, I'll be honest: when I first heard the name, I half-expected a ringmaster and perhaps a trapeze artist dangling over the butter chicken. But what I found was something far more sensible—a fortnight-long celebration (December 15th to 30th, if you're planning ahead) that takes the buffet format seriously without taking itself too seriously. The Setting Blooms has been done up with that particular brand of festive exuberance that stops just short of garish. There are lights, yes, and seasonal touches, but nothing that makes you feel you've wandered into a Christmas cracker factory. The space itself is comfortable—the sort of room where you can settle in for a proper meal without feeling rushed or overlooked. The Food Here's where things get interesting. At ₹2,650 plus taxes, this isn't a bargain buffet, but then again, it doesn't pretend to be. What you get instead is a spread that's been thought through rather than simply thrown together. The lunch service (noon to 3 PM) and dinner (7 PM to 11 PM) offer similar philosophies: variety without chaos, indulgence without excess. There are live counters, naturally—this is Delhi, where we judge a buffet partly by how much theater comes with our food. But more importantly, there's evidence of actual cooking happening, not just reheating. I won't catalogue every dish—that would take longer than eating them—but I will say this: whoever's running the kitchen understands that a good buffet is about balance. Rich and light, familiar and surprising, comforting and ambitious. It's a delicate equation, and they've largely got it right. The Verdict The fifteen-day run is clever—long enough that you don't feel you've missed out if you can't make it immediately.
