Nara Thai Brings Bangkok's Soul to Gurugram There's a certain irony to the fact that Delhi-NCR, despite its vast Thai expatriate community and decades-long love affair with Thai food, has rarely seen authentic Thai cuisine executed at the level it deserves. We've had our share of decent neighbourhood joints and hotel restaurants that do a competent Pad Thai, but the kind of refined, methodical Thai cooking that Bangkok's best restaurants are known for has remained elusive. Until now. Nara Thai's arrival in Gurugram changes that conversation entirely. This isn't another pan-Asian restaurant with a few Thai dishes thrown in as an afterthought. This is the real thing: a Michelin-recognized Bangkok institution with 33 locations globally, now making its North India debut. And if my recent visit is any indication, Gurugram's culinary landscape just got considerably more interesting. The Pedigree Let me begin with credentials, because they matter. Nara Thai was founded in 2003 by Narawadee Srikarnchana and Sirisopa Chulasewok—two women who've spent two decades building a reputation for cooking that honours Thailand's regional diversity without being enslaved by it. Their restaurants span Asia and the Middle East, and the consistency across locations is remarkable. In India, the brand is operated by Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality, which suggests the kind of backing that can sustain quality over gimmickry. What impressed me most, though, wasn't the pedigree but the commitment to authenticity. Every sauce, every paste, every essential ingredient is imported from the Bangkok flagship. The chefs have trained under Nara's masters in Thailand. This isn't approximation; it's transplantation. The Space Designer Nitipattara Yensup has created interiors that strike a delicate balance between nostalgia and modernity. Rattan accents, a soothing blue-and-white palette, floral touches, and discreet gold detailing come together in a way that feels neither overly formal nor casually trendy. The space seats over 80, with a private dining area for those who prefer intimacy.
