Begeterre's New Cocktail Menu: A Connoisseur's Critique Let's be frank. Delhi's dining scene, for all its occasional flashes of brilliance, often suffers from a profound lack of originality. We see endless iterations of the same tired concepts—the 'speakeasy' that's anything but secret, the 'fusion' that's just confusion on a plate. So, when a place dares to do something genuinely different, it merits attention. Begeterre, with its audacious claim of offering the city’s first museum-inspired dining experience, certainly falls into this rare category. The concept, I must admit, is intriguing. Does one dine in the shadow of a Rodin replica? Are the servers dressed as Renaissance courtiers? Mercifully, no. The 'museum' aspect is, thankfully, more about an aesthetic of curated refinement than theme-park theatrics. But the real test, as always, is not the decor, however high-minded, but what arrives at the table. My recent visit was occasioned by the launch of their new cocktail menu, and I approached it with a healthy dose of professional cynicism. After all, a truly great cocktail program requires not just excellent spirits, but a touch of alchemy—the ability to turn predictable ingredients into an unforgettable sip. The Liquid Artistry The menu is thankfully concise, avoiding the usual tome of derivative concoctions. The names themselves are a playful mix of the highbrow and the aspirational. I started, as one must, with the most intriguing proposition: the Vitruvian Harmony. Now, the Picante is a modern classic, a beautifully balanced blend of heat and citrus. Begeterre's 'bold twist' integrates passion fruit, and frankly, it works. The smooth tequila base is quickly brightened by the zesty lime and the tropical tang of passion fruit. The fresh jalapeño provides the requisite kick, but it’s the cilantro finish—a whisper of herbal freshness—that elevates it from a mere spicy Margarita into something far more sophisticated. It achieves, dare I say, the very 'harmony' it promises. A genuinely good drink.
