Mestizo Brings Latin Heat to Delhi There's a certain thrill that comes with discovering a restaurant that gets it right—not just the food, but the whole package. The vibe, the energy, the sense that you're somewhere special. I felt that unmistakable buzz the moment I walked into Mestizo on a Saturday evening. Perched above Khi Khi at PVR Highstreet, this new Latin American venture has announced its arrival with considerable confidence. And unlike many of Delhi's flash-in-the-pan openings that promise much and deliver little, Mestizo seems to understand what it takes to create a memorable dining experience. THE SETTING The first thing that strikes you is how the restaurant wears its Latin American identity—boldly, but without descending into theme-park territory. The interiors are done up in earthy tones punctuated by bursts of tropical colour and handcrafted décor that feels authentic rather than affected. There's a warmth to the space that instantly puts you at ease. But it's the outdoor area that truly seals the deal. Lush with greens and blooms, it's the sort of space that makes you want to linger over another round of drinks with friends, watching the evening unfold. Delhi doesn't have enough such spaces—restaurants that understand the value of good outdoor seating done well. I arrived to find the place buzzing with just the right amount of energy. Not so packed that you're fighting to be heard, but lively enough to feel like something's happening. The soundtrack deserves special mention—a clever mix of familiar tunes that hit that sweet spot between nostalgic and current. A few drinks in, I caught myself mouthing lyrics I hadn't thought about in years. That's the mark of a well-curated playlist: it enhances without overwhelming. THE FOOD Now, Latin American cuisine is tricky territory. It's vast, diverse, and too often reduced to tired clichés in Indian restaurants. Mestizo's menu ambitiously spans the continent—from Mexico to Argentina, Chile to Brazil, with Spanish influences woven through—and the kitchen largely delivers on that promise. Mestizo has arrived with enough swagger and substance to suggest it's here to stay.
