I have long believed that Connaught Place needed more restaurants that understood the difference between a venue and a destination. While CP has never lacked for eating establishments, most have treated the location as an end in itself—open a restaurant in the inner circle, they seemed to think, and the crowds would follow. Priyank Sukhija, to his credit, has never subscribed to this lazy philosophy. Sukhija, of course, is the man behind some of Delhi's most successful restaurant ventures—the kind of restaurateur who understands that in today's dining landscape, you're not just selling food, you're selling an experience. When he opened Openhouse in 2015, he wasn't content with simply creating another café in CP's already crowded market. Instead, he set out to build something that would keep people coming back, not just for a meal, but for an evening out. The Space The moment you walk into Openhouse, you realize this isn't going to be your typical Connaught Place experience. The interiors are deliberately eclectic—mechanical artwork competes for attention with superhero masks, industrial fixtures sit alongside surreal props. It's the kind of décor that could easily tip into gimmickry, but somehow manages to work. The space feels energetic without being chaotic, quirky without being pretentious. Here's the thing: Sukhija has always understood that millennials and Gen Z diners want more than good food. They want Instagram-worthy corners, they want entertainment, they want a reason to linger. Openhouse delivers on all counts, with its roster of DJ nights, acoustic sessions, Sufi evenings, and Bollywood nights. On weekends, there are sports screenings. It's the full package. The Drinks I started, as one should at any self-respecting modern establishment, with the cocktails. The Watermelon Picante caught my eye—tequila with lime juice, agave syrup, watermelon syrup, coriander, and jalapeño. Now, I'm generally suspicious of cocktails that try to do too much, but this one managed to balance heat and sweetness rather well.
