The Table by Peepal at Siri Fort offers a surprising refuge from Delhi's dining monotony. I've lost count of the number of times someone has asked me: "Where do you go when you want good food but don't want the fuss of fine dining?" It's a fair question. Delhi has no shortage of restaurants that tick one box or the other—either they're serious about their food but wrapped in excessive formality, or they're casual but compromise on what emerges from the kitchen. Which is why The Table by Peepal, now open at the Siri Fort Driving Range, feels like something of a revelation. Not because it reinvents the wheel—it doesn't—but because it manages to do something far more difficult: it gets the balance right. The Space The location itself is unusual. Siri Fort isn't exactly restaurant row, and a driving range hardly screams culinary destination. But that's precisely the point. There's a sense of discovery here, of stumbling upon something that doesn't need to shout for attention. The interiors follow the Japanese principle of Wabi-Sabi—that aesthetic philosophy that finds beauty in imperfection and transience. Before you roll your eyes at yet another restaurant invoking Japanese design principles, let me say this: they've actually understood it. There's no Instagram-bait neon or contrived minimalism. Instead, you'll find calm, warm textures, and a spatial flow that makes you want to linger. Whether you've just finished a round of golf, are meeting friends, or simply want to spend an unhurried afternoon over a good meal, the space accommodates you without fuss. The Menu Executive Chef Dev Pandit has crafted a menu that refuses to be pigeonholed. It draws from global inspirations while staying rooted in regional favourites—the kind of approach that can go horribly wrong in less capable hands. But Pandit seems to understand something fundamental: eclecticism works only when there's a clear point of view. Consider the Phyllo Tazza. Flaky phyllo pastry cradling earthy mushrooms and velvety goat cheese—it's a dish that could easily veer into pretension but instead remains grounded in flavour. The Table by Peepal might be at a driving range, but it's worth the visit.
