A Night of Fire and Fiesta: Popes India Arrives in Gurgaon There are launches, and then there are launches. The kind where you walk in expecting the usual suspects—a ribbon cutting, some tepid canapés, a DJ playing remixes nobody asked for—and instead find yourself swept into something altogether more exhilarating. Last Friday evening at M3M Broadway in Sector 71, Gurugram, Popes India's grand unveiling was decidedly of the latter variety. The Scene By half past seven, M3M Broadway was already pulsing with energy. The guest list read like a who's who of the NCR's social and digital elite. Influencers from Delhi, Gurgaon, and Noida had descended upon the venue, and the resulting collision of personalities created precisely the sort of electric atmosphere that makes or breaks a launch. What struck me immediately was the absence of pretension. This wasn't one of those insufferably self-important affairs where everyone's posing for content and nobody's actually enjoying themselves. People were present—laughing, dancing, genuinely engaging with the experience Popes had created. The Cantina Comes Alive "Southwest Cantina" might sound like marketing hyperbole, but Popes has earned the descriptor. The space itself manages that tricky balance between polished and playful, sophisticated without being stuffy. Mexican energy—that infectious, life-affirming warmth—permeated everything. And then there was the salsa dancing. Now, I'm reliably informed that most restaurant launches feature background music you politely ignore while networking. Not here. The live music wasn't merely ambient—it was integral, propulsive, impossible to resist. Within an hour, the dance floor was packed with guests attempting moves that ranged from impressively fluid to charmingly enthusiastic. As I left M3M Broadway well past what I'd planned as a "quick appearance," I couldn't help feeling optimistic about Gurgaon's dining scene. We need more places willing to take risks, to prioritize experience over Instagram moments, to remember that restaurants are fundamentally about people gathering to eat, drink, and celebrate life. Welcome to Gurgaon, Popes. We've been waiting for you.
