“From Bavaria With Love” was The Park Hyderabad’s tribute to the bonhomie and true spirit of Oktoberfest celebrations last week at the lovely outdoors area outside Sicca Bar. Helming the German spread of roasts and brews, along with the capable executive chef Satya Pandari, was German chef Sebastien Borchardt who, ironically, runs a sushi restaurant in Auroville, Pondicherry. The amiable general manager Ajit Singh Garcha played the gracious and warm host to the hilt, as always Free-flowing beer and beer-based cocktails, (Bengaluru-based craft beer brand Geist) live counters for frying sausages and Bavarian meat loaf, soups (some delicious asparagus soup), salads, were the attractions of course but what I found both distinct and delicious in a simple uncomplicated manner was the Spätzle , which is often referred to as the German pasta though it’s closer in texture and chewiness to a cross between egg noodles & dumplings. Made of flour, eggs, milk and sautéed with cheese and onions, this one was simple but impactful on the palate. I also liked the Bavarian meat loaf and the cheesy potato casserole. Both the good chefs also presented roast keg of lamb which had been marinated in Mediterranean spices and was plated with plenty of sautéed vegetables and made for a pretty sight! The Black Forest cake, however, was a bit disappointing as I had wanted to taste the authentic version but this was instead pretty much watered down. For someone alien to German food, this pop up was a good introduction!
