Swati's Post

Ek Shaam, Deccani Shaayari ke Naam, hosted recently by @ek_chitra art gallery in collaboration with @rasa_art.uk (which I was delighted to know is the brainchild of Sahiti Kalyanam, daughter of my dear friend @rajeshwarikalyanam), was an ode to the Dakhni dialect and expression, replete with wit, humour (sardonic, at most times) and nostalgia. The evening was steered by senior journalist and poet Saleem Fazil who talked about his own Deccani roots (parents being from Karnataka and Maharashtra bordering areas) and how he stood out for this uniqueness of origin. Noted humour poet Waheed Pasha Qadri then regaled ths audience with both his poetry and parodies, the latter to the tune of Bollywood faves, such as the number Pardesi Pardesi which was changed to Dekho jee Dekho Jee Aana Nahin Dubai Chod kar, Kamai Chod kar! Whether it was about circus Ke jokers becoming ministers, or about a demanding wife insisting that her husband toils in Dubai so that the family can have a cushy life in Hyderabad. The @ek_chitra art gallery in Kavuri Hills is a visual treat for those who are artistically inclined and it was heartening to note from founder Annapurna Madipadiga that Ek Chitra would be an active art platform and host many such creative events going forward. Thank you @rajeshwarikalyanam and @fmsaleem for roping us all in for an enlightening and entertaining evening !
