Hyderabad has evolved from a biryani-obsessed metro to be a much-coveted culinary destination by foodpreneurs, at an accelerated pace in the last few years. Every now and then a tony F&B address springs up raising the bar for fine dining in the city. Akina, a contemporary Asian restaurant located in Hi-Tec City with an absolutely stunning rooftop poolside ambiance (the indoor seating is equally chic & bohemian) and a cool, energetic vibe is a perfect example of this trend. Having opened recently , @akinahyderabad is founded by serial restaurateur Hitesh Keswani . (Akina in Mumbai besides restaurants in Goa) and he does seem to have aced this one ! A cocktail listing themed around elements of nature set the mood of the recent lunch preview which I was a part of. Loved the forest, earth, fire and night sky elements incorporated in the brilliantly crafted cocktails. I was smitten with the “deep and earthy” Kuro Daichi or the Black Earth, Suntory Toki with fig &coffee liqueur and vegan foam. The Akina Avocado Pizza topped with truffle and salsa was a flavour and texture bomb so was Amma’s mango and avocado ceviche inspired by the Hyderabadi karam podi and the dish here mentions the ingredient as Kyoto Karam Podi. The Tuna Pizza was again an eclectic starter, very pleasing both to the eye & the palate. As the affable corporate chef of Akina Rahul Punjabi elaborated, “We might have Japanese techniques like the Robata grill and sushi but we have tried to keep the core hyper local sourcing fresh ingredients like herbs and seasonings ,”. I was completely attached to my Singapore Chilli prawn with some Tabanjan butter and rice as well as some excellently done stir fried exotic vegetables in black peppers sauce. From the Robata grill we also tried the Balinese Chicken wings. The Akina Dessert Platter was a happy surprise, with some delectable Miso Cappucino (crème brûlée), mango sticky rice, matcha tres leches, millionaire s chocolate cake and three delightful sorbets. Aaah, bliss!
