The just-launched Abidi’s Virsa-E-Deccan celebrates Hyderabad’s culinary legacy in an extremely pleasing ambience. Located in Banjara Hills, right next to LV Prasad Eye the dinery has an old-world classic and retro vibe (down to the floral upholstery, pastel shades and those antique looking toggle electrical switches). There is also chowki seating in a plush setting for those who want to experience the traditional Hyderabadi way of dining. The menu is huge in line with founder owner Raza Abidi’s POV that Hyderabad food is much more than biryani and haleem. I was privileged to be part of a preview session organised @abidis_virsa by Hyderabad’s largest online foodie platform FIHR (Foodies in Hyderabad Reloaded) recently on a Sunday afternoon. Right from the warm welcome by FIHR admins Fareesa Khan abd Harish Khaturia with Jasmine flower bracelets and ittar, to the warm hospitality of owner Raza Abidi and his staff who were ensuring a constant stream of fresh, hot food from the kitchen , this lunch was the stuff memories are made of. Was a pleasure to Of the humungous menu showcased (including plenty of vegetarian choices like Ambade ki Sabzi and Miloni Tarkari, albeit with some contemporary choices like Paneer 65 and Malai Broccoli), my picks for recommending were Murgh Chooza ke Shorba, Teen Goshta Haleem (apparently named after the 3:1 ratio of meat to broken wheat/lentils)., the crisply fried Tawa Macchi and Butter Garlic Prawns, (in a Continental style), and Gosht ke Pasindey which I paired with the softest chaar koni naan. The Keema lukhmi and Patthar ka Gosht however could have done with some improvement or maybe it was an off day with so many guests and even more dishes ! Though I was full, I tried a spoonful of Lacvji Yakhni ke biryani and it was also quite well done. The desserts repertoire is quite impressive especially with the Zafrani Kheer, Double Ks Meetha and Apricot Delight. We finished with meetha paan this fabulous and memorable meal. It was a pleasure to meet fellow foodies Vishal Baldev, Siddharth S, Manisha Jaikarun, Arvind Ramachander and restaurateurs Amita Lulla (of Simply South) and Irfan Bhai of Subhan Bakery after quite a while.
