Water has a way of holding you differently. Watsu Therapy, short for “Water Shiatsu,” was developed in the early 1980s by Harold Dull at Harbin Hot Springs in California. It combines elements of Shiatsu, gentle stretching, joint mobilisation, and rhythmic movement—performed entirely in warm water. 👉🏻 I recently experienced it at Sanctuary Amaidyana, where a one-hour Watsu session costs ₹6,000. My therapist, Pulkit @pulkit_onhisway who specialises in multiple aquatic therapies, guided the entire session with remarkable precision and calm. 👉🏻 Unlike conventional massage therapies that happen on a table, Watsu requires a dedicated warm-water pool, usually maintained at body temperature. The therapist supports your body as you float on the surface, moving you through slow stretches, rotations, and wave-like motions. At times the body is gently submerged and brought back to the surface in a continuous rhythm. 👉🏻 There is no effort required from you; the entire experience is about surrendering to the water and the therapist’s guidance. The result is difficult to compare with any land-based therapy. The combination of buoyancy, warmth, and continuous movement releases deep muscular tension while also quieting the nervous system. It feels meditative, almost like being cradled in slow motion. 👉🏻 You step out lighter, calmer, and strangely reset. For anyone dealing with stress, physical stiffness, or simply wanting to experience something profoundly restorative, Watsu is worth seeking out. #watsu #watsutherapy #travelwithkrazybutterfly #sanctuaryamaidiyana #aurovilleindia
