Two days in Pollachi (Coconut capital of India), and what a remarkable place. I stayed at Pollachi Riverhouse, a single-key mansion overlooking the Ambarampalayam River. Shiva, the property manager, was an excellent host—always present and ready with thoughtful suggestions on what to explore nearby. 👉🏻 One of the best discoveries was learning how palm jaggery is made, including variations using coconut and sugarcane. The organic and sustainable process itself was a delight to watch. I also visited Periya Negamam village, where the entire community comes together to weave a saree. I met several families involved in every stage of the process, from weaving to dyeing. All of this was with my guide, Muthu, a local who effectively served as my translator. 👉🏻 Evenings were largely spent by the river, taking a dip in the pool, or simply wandering around Pollachi Riverhouse, which has its own coconut grove and avocado plantations.
