Step into Swadesh, Woods at Sasan’s beating heart, and you will find every nook and cranny sings its praises. Swadesh isn’t just a name; it’s a declaration of independence, proudly flaunting local materials like Kadappa, brass, teak, and Ipe wood. Gabion walls, laced with river stones, share tales of resilience like an old friend. 👉🏻 Narmada Kaki, a local resident, oversees their menu, and I had the opportunity to observe her preparing Rotla (a Jowar flatbread). Later, I savoured a thali at Swadesh, reflecting the rustic ambience of the restaurant. The meal featured Amla Gud Nu Sharbat as a refreshing welcome drink, followed by a selection of Farsan including Dhokla, Matar Kachori, Paneer Corn Tikki, and Patra. The Kachu (salad) comprised kachumber, athanu, and papad. 👉🏻 For dessert, we indulged in Gajar Halwa and Barfi, while the main course offered Patta Gobhi (cauliflower) Nu Shaak, Bhinda (ladyfinger) Nu Shaak, Bataka Nu Shaak, and Urad Daal (Kathod). Accompaniments included Roti, Poori, Jowar na Rotla, Methi Thepla, Khichdi with Gujarati Kadhi, and plain rice with Gujarati Daal. 👉🏻 In the backdrop, mudwork and mirror patterns, delicately etched, murmur secrets of ancient crafts, while Chundana and nail-and-thread masterpieces breathe life into the surroundings. Brass accents glisten with the warmth of a welcoming embrace, and Khadi silk whispers stories of artisans’ expertise, embroidered with love and tradition. In Swadesh, every element speaks volumes, and each Thali tells a tale worth savouring.
