Here’s how I spent 3 days in Mahabalipuram. Save the post and itinerary for your next trip. 👉🏻 I stayed at Isai Karai Bungalow (translates to Musical Shores) a 5-bedroom property managed by CGH Earth Saha—perfect for solo travellers, friends, family or anyone who prefers privacy. Shared spaces include a living room and a small, well-equipped dining area. 👉🏻 On the 2nd day, I embarked on the Mahabalipuram Heritage Trail with my guide Shiva Sadashivam. We explored the ancient port city of the Pallavas (a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site) while trailing through iconic landmarks—7th-century Pancha Rathas, open-air bas-relief of Arjuna’s Penance, Shore Temple, and Mahishasuramardini Cave. 👉🏻 On my way back to Isai Karai, I also stopped by a few Sculptor workshops as granite sculptures are a major highlight of this town. Post lunch and high tea at Isai Karai—I took a leisurely stroll by the sea (50 metres from the bungalow) and enjoyed a quiet time there with Kavitha. 👉🏻 Evening concluded with a poolside barbecue dinner at the bungalow, and I was impressed by the curated seafood and grilled specialties that Kavitha put together for me. 👉🏻 On the third day, I headed to Surf Turf in Kovalam for a surfing session. Following that, I visited Idlers Farm (a rustic Farm-to-Fork cafe) for lunch. It is owned by Anne & David and they were kind enough to also let me tour their 6-acres farm where I learned about sustainable farming practices, composting, and natural fertilisers that make their 142-150 crops flourish. 👉🏻 In the evening, I visited the India Seashell Museum, that showcases over 40,000 shells from India and around the world. The ticket also gave me access to all the other museums (fishing, pearl, dinosaur, illusion and horror) located on the same campus. I would also recommend Arts & Crafts village to those who’d like to purchase local items.
