If there’s one place that still feels tethered to the old world in the best possible way, it’s Luxor. Visiting it, reminded me why travelers have been chasing this stretch of the Nile for centuries. Here’s how I’d map out a day (or two) if you really want to feel Luxor in your bones: 👉🏻 Start with Karnak Temple before the sun gets too bold. That first walk through the Great Hypostyle Hall never loses its punch — those pillars have been standing longer than most civilizations. 👉🏻 As the light softens, wander over to Luxor Temple. The columns glow, the pylons warm up in color, and you suddenly understand why ancient travelers thought the gods lived here. 👉🏻 Cross the river the next morning for the Valley of the Kings. You can spend hours ducking into tombs, but pick a handful and do them properly. Tomb of Rameses IV (KV2), Tomb of Merenptah (KV8), and Tomb of Rameses IX (KV6) stopped me in my tracks — the colors, the precision, the stubborn survival of it all. 👉🏻 And don’t skip the Valley of the Queens. It’s quieter, gentler, and Nefertari’s tomb (if open) is as close as you’ll come to stepping into a painted dream. 👉🏻 End your day the only way that makes sense here: a slow felucca ride on the Nile. No engines, no rush — just the wind nudging you along as the city glows on both banks. It’s old-school travel, the kind that reminds you why we wander at all.
