 👉🏻 Before you grab your goggles, let me tell you—this festival is wilder, older, and cheekier than you think. I was in Buñol this May, wandering into the La Tomatina Museum, and what I found made me grin like a kid about to throw the first tomato. 👉🏻 La Tomatina began in 1945, as pure rebellion—two groups of youngsters, a parade, stolen tomatoes from a fruit shop… and chaos. Franco’s dictatorship banned it, but Buñol fought back with a funeral for the festival—coffin, mourners, and yes, tomatoes laid to rest. 👉🏻 SWIPE—The photos are priceless: teary-eyed “grievers” clearly smirking. One year later, the people won. Now, 20,000 of us pelt overripe tomatoes for 20-60 glorious minutes. Then—poof—the chaos vanishes. In under two hours, the streets are spotless, scrubbed by the council and volunteers. La Tomatina isn’t just a food fight—it’s proof that joy is worth defending.
