𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗗𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝘀 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗚𝗼 𝗪𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴? 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺! You've seen this, haven't you? The project fails, and suddenly it's everyone's fault except the manager's. "The team didn't communicate well." "They missed the deadlines." "The quality wasn't up to standard." Meanwhile, the team is sitting there thinking, Wait, weren't you the one who approved this timeline? Didn't you sign off on these requirements? Where were you when we needed support? But here's what happens next. That manager's reputation takes a hit anyway. 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁. Now compare that to the leader who walks into the meeting and says, "This project didn't work out as planned. As the leader, that's on me. Let's figure out what we learned and how we do better next time." Their team doesn't lose respect for them. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲. They know this person has their back. They know they can take risks without fear of being scapegoated. The difference? One is worried about looking bad to their boss. The other is focused on building trust with their team. Here's the truth: "𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗢𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗬𝗼𝘂'𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗻 𝗧𝗼 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱." Your position is just a title on paper. Your people are the ones who actually make things happen. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲. Have you ever worked with a leader who truly had your back when things got tough?
