Things I didn’t realise were ADHD symptoms until I was diagnosed at 27: Task paralysis Wanting to do something SO badly… thinking about it all day… stressing about it constantly… and still somehow not being able to start. Hyperfixation Spending 9 hours researching a random topic, forgetting to eat, ignoring texts, and suddenly becoming an expert in something I’ll never think about again. “Waiting mode” Having one appointment at 4pm and being mentally unable to do anything else the entire day because I’m scared I’ll forget it. Emotional dysregulation Feeling emotions so intensely that one small inconvenience could ruin my entire day, even when logically I knew it wasn’t a big deal. For years I thought these were just personality flaws, bad habits, laziness, or me “not trying hard enough.” Getting diagnosed at 27 made me realise my brain wasn’t broken, it was unsupported and misunderstood. And honestly? So many women especially grow up masking these symptoms because they don’t look like the stereotypes people expect ADHD to look like.
