Things I didn’t realise were ADHD symptoms until I was diagnosed at 27: Interrupting people Not because I’m rude or not listening… but because if I don’t say the thought immediately, it disappears forever. Constantly losing things Putting something down “somewhere safe” and immediately forgetting it exists. The ADHD shame cycle Falling behind, panicking, avoiding tasks because I’m overwhelmed, then feeling intense guilt for not doing them. Needing pressure to function Being unable to start anything until the deadline creates enough urgency for my brain to engage. For years I thought I just wasn’t disciplined enough. I didn’t understand why simple tasks felt impossible until they became urgent. Getting diagnosed at 27: helped me understand executive dysfunction and how ADHD affects task initiation, memory, focus, and emotional regulation in everyday life.
