“Just write it down.” It sounds helpful… but for a lot of people with ADHD, it doesn’t actually solve the problem. Because the issue isn’t always remembering to write things down. It’s remembering to come back to it, act on it, and not get lost in everything else happening at the same time. ADHD affects working memory, the part of your brain that holds information while you’re using it. So even if something is written down, it can still disappear from your mind the moment your attention shifts. That’s why lists alone often don’t work. Out of sight really does become out of mind. What actually helps is reducing how much your brain has to hold and remember in the first place, and making things harder to ignore. Creating consistent physical routines means you don’t have to think every time. Keeping things visible means your environment does the remembering for you. Stacking habits onto things you already do removes the need to rely on motivation. It’s less about “trying harder” and more about building systems your brain can follow automatically. That’s the difference. 💭 Have you tried writing things down and still forgotten?
