Today marks Autism Awareness Day, and I feel compelled to share our story. It was my husband, Mehebub, who first noticed something different about Pasta, our daughter, while I initially found myself in denial. It took a few months for me to accept it, and that's when our journey of awareness truly began at home several years ago. This moment changed our lives for the better. We realized we needed to be a stronger family unit than ever before. My husband and I, who had become more partners than just spouses, rediscovered our friendship, and now Pasta truly guides our family. We began working on things step by step, focusing on small details to help Pasta navigate the world more easily, even though she is considered to be on the milder end of the spectrum. Whether "mild" is a scientifically accurate term is debatable; essentially, a person either has autism or doesn't. Our daughter's case is on the less severe side, and for that, we've been told we are fortunate. She is the reason for so many things. Because of her, I went back to higher study after work so we could study together, and Mehebub did too. She is also why I cut out unnecessary things from my life. With her dog sisters, she is building a life where Mehebub and I are happy parents. People often say we are extremely careful and protective of Pasta. It takes me no time at all to remove people from my life who don't understand that autism is real. I am proud to be a lioness for my cub. #autismawareness #autismacceptance #autismawarenessmonth
