The very first sign of Durga Puja are the white bunches of kashatandi flowers (Saccharum spontaneum) that you can spot every time you cross fields & meadows prior to the celebrations. On the other hand, the fragrance exuded by Gangaseuli flowers (Nyctanthes arbor-tristis) reminds that Durga Puja is just round the corner. ▪︎In the darkness of the night, it blooms & spreads its intoxicating fragrance wafts in the air. And as soon as the light of dawn falls, it falls & makes a white-orange carpet, the only flower that can be offered to the deities after picking them from the ground. ▪︎The blooming of the Gangaseuli flowers, incidentally, is also considered the onset of autumn, it symbolizes only one thing: Maa Durga is on her way home. ▪︎Today is Mahalaya which is celebrated as the beginning of the Durga puja. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that on this day Brahma, Vishnu & Maheswar (3 Gods) created Goddess Durga to defeat the demon king Mahishasura. It is the last day of Pitru Paksha i.e Sarva Pitru Amavasya. Therefore, this day is marked as the arrival of Goddess Durga to Earth with her ultimate power. #mahalaya2025 #subhamahalaya #kashatandi #gangaseuli #durgapuja2025 #storyteller #pujavibes #reelitfeelit #reelvideo #reelindia #odishaculture #odisha #odishatourism
