▪︎During early winter morning & every household in Odisha is filled with aroma of turmeric leaves. ▪︎If someone look closely to our cultural practices & festivals coincides with the agricultural practices. ▪︎Kartik month coincides with turmeric growing period where as Margasira month coincides with harvesting of turmeric & use of turmeric leaves play important role in making of "HALADI PATRA PITHA" i.e Enduri Pitha for the festival of Prathamastami in Odisha. ▪︎This popular traditional Odia festival fall on 8th day (Ashtmi) after Kartik Purnima(Winter season), where the (Pratham) 1st born child/eldest child ( PODHUA in ODIA) of family is worshiped by his/her mother or senior female relatives followed by elaborate rituals infront of Goddess Shathi & the family deity for a good health & long life, hence called as "PRATHAMASTAMI". ▪︎Me being a single child has an excitement for this festival till date in which the maternal uncle sends money or new clothes & other items necessary for the rituals. ▪︎The major attraction of the day is Haldi Patra pitha/Enduri Pitha which is 1st offered during puja & relished by family then shared with neighbours & friends. ▪︎This traditional pitha which is a light snack sweet dish & has laxative effect with lots of health benefits like improving immunity that is much needed during winters. ▪︎Most of the rituals we follow has some logical reasoning. In olden days, the infant mortality rate was high. In the first few years if the child survived complications after birth, this traditional pitha is given to the child as a booster just before on set of winter. But then all thanks to advances in the field of medical science, that infant mortality is reduced consequently. ▪︎But then the social significance of this festival is that the first-borns are brighter & it is ultimately they who take up the burden of the family after the death of the parents. #haldipatrapitha #prathamastami #festivalsofodisha #eldestchild #festivalsofindia #odishatourism #foodoftheday #enduripitha #pithasofodisha #odishaheritage #odiatradition #turmericleafpitha #sweetdish #traditionalrecipe #foodoffestivals #foodvideo #reels
