■Sudasha Brata a local Odia festival in Odisha. ■So Sudasha is made of 2 words - ‘su’ means ‘good’ and ‘dasha’ means ‘luck’ & another name of Goddess Lakshmi. Therefore, in Odisha its observed by married women for prosperity & well being of their family. There could be more than one Sudasha Brata in a year (or none if no Thursday coincides with Dashami tithi while being in Shukla Pakhya). ■The brata revived by saint poet Balarama Das some 400 years back. The most important aspect of the brata is the sacred thread, which women tie on their right arm with 10 knots & kept tied to the arm till the next Brata and replaced with a new one. ■The loss of the brata is considered to bring bad luck. ▪︎According to folklores, Sudasha Brata is being observed by women since Satya Yug. Queen Ratnabati, wife of King Vikramasena & Padmabati, minister Trikuteswar’s wife, once saw some Apsaras(Angels) performing the rituals of Sudasha brata & with curiosity both enquired about its significance. Both decided to observe it. ▪︎Once Ratnabati lost her sacred thread. Seeing his wife worried and not having food for 3 days, King insisted Ratnabati to break her fast. ▪︎After that they faced a hard time, the King lost his kingdom & was forced to beg. He took up a job at a merchant’s house & the queen took care of household chores. ▪︎Next year, the queen along with the merchant’s wife observed Sudasa Brata and soon things changed. The king got back his kingdom & his luck. ■Offering "STEAMED MANDA PITHA" is an important ritual in this Brata. #sudasabrata #mandapitha #suklamanda #sijhamanda #steameddumpling #odiapitha #pithasofodisha #odishatourismofficial #homemadepitha #traditionaldishes #odiadishes #dishesofodisha #foodreelvideo #folklore #reelitfeelit #reelsinstagram #indianmythology #Thursdayfoodpost #foodstylist #foodstory #goddesslakshmi #storyteller #foodvideo #storytelling #foodblog #sundayvibes
