Authoritarian parenting and authoritative parenting sound almost the same. They are not even close. One word looks like the other, but the gap between them is everything. Think about your last full day with your child. Now count the corrections. Sit up. Stop that. Not like that. Hurry up. We do it a hundred times without noticing. Then count the moments you just connected, no fixing, no teaching, just being with them. For a lot of us the correction pile is tall and the connection pile is thin. And here is the part we miss: a child cannot take in correction from someone they do not feel close to in that moment. The lesson bounces off. What lands instead is the feeling of always being wrong. Connection first is not going soft. It is the thing that makes correction actually work. The child who feels held is the child who can hear you. Same rule, two different homes. In one it sounds like “because I said so.” In the other it sounds like “I love you too much to let this slide.” The boundary is identical. The child grows up completely different. Tell me honestly in the comments: do you correct more than you connect on a normal day? I think most of us do, and saying it out loud is where it starts to change. . . . . . #authoritativeparenting #positiveparenting #consciousparenting #gentleparenting #connectionbeforecorrection
