When a parent treats everyday situations as something to be scared of, the child’s brain starts doing the same thing automatically. Not because they chose to. Because children take their cues from the people they trust most. The hovering. The fixing things before they get a chance to try. The unpredictable moods. The worrying out loud. The child absorbs all of it. And their nervous system learns one thing. The world is not safe to handle alone. Research is very clear on this. One calm steady parent is one of the strongest protections against childhood anxiety. Not a perfect parent. Just a regulated one. You don’t have to have it all together. You just have to let your child see you handle the hard things without falling apart. That is where their courage comes from. Not from you telling them everything will be okay.
