Nobody noticed that you had stopped asking for things. Nobody told you that your needs mattered just as much as keeping everyone else comfortable. So you grew up thinking that was just who you were. An easy person. A low maintenance person. And now you’re raising a child. And they’re easy too. And something in you recognises it. That recognition is important. Because research shows people pleasing patterns are almost always passed down. Not on purpose. But because you can only give your child what someone once gave you. The cycle doesn’t break with a big conversation. It breaks with one small moment where you let them push back. Where you let them say no.
