My husband caught a few seconds of this on holiday. Me dancing. The babies watching. No reason. No audience. And it made me want to say something to every parent reading this. The reason silly, joyful moments come so easily on holiday isn’t because we’re somewhere beautiful. It’s because our minds are finally quiet. No to-do list. No mental tab open for laundry, lunchboxes, deadlines, dinner. Just us. Just them. Just now. But your child shouldn’t have to wait for a holiday to meet this version of you. A few times a week is enough. Put on a song. Be silly in the kitchen. Dance badly in the living room. Laugh too loud at nothing at all. It doesn’t need a reason. It doesn’t need a destination. It doesn’t need a single thing except you, deciding to. Because a child doesn’t need a parent who is endlessly doing. They need to regularly witness a human being who is simply being. That look on their faces when they see you happy for no reason - every child deserves it. Not once a year. Not in a hotel room. Not on a beach. On an ordinary Wednesday evening, in your own kitchen, with the dal on the stove. 🤍
