In a landmark shift, the BJP's decisive victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections has triggered a wave of development announcements and project accelerations across the state, marking the beginning of what many describe as a new era of infrastructure-led growth and industrial revival. Within weeks of forming the government, authorities have fast-tracked stalled metro projects in Kolkata, with rapid progress on the Orange Line's Chingrighata viaduct and other corridors that had languished for years. Railway officials received directives to revive over 60 pending projects through urgent land handovers, while ports like Tajpur Deep Sea Port and expansions at Haldia and Kolkata are gaining fresh momentum to boost logistics and the blue economy. One of the most visible early wins is Amul's commitment to set up West Bengal's first fully-owned major dairy processing plant at Sankrail Food Park in Howrah, including the world's largest curd manufacturing unit with massive daily capacity to benefit rural milk producers and create jobs. Alongside this, plans are advancing for reopening closed factories in the jute and engineering sectors, developing new industrial parks, and reimagining sites like Singur with pro-business land policies. Additional initiatives include new expressways, highways connecting Sundarbans to Darjeeling, four proposed cities in North Bengal, and enhanced focus on education and health infrastructure. This surge is being hailed as historic, representing the first time in decades that Bengal has a government aligned with the Centre, enabling "double-engine" governance to unlock long-delayed projects and attract investments. The BJP has emphasised a clear priority on development, infrastructure, and job creation through practical execution, in contrast to previous regimes often criticised for prioritising caste and religion-based politics that many argue perpetuated economic stagnation and kept large sections of the population poor. With these early moves, the new administration aims to position West Bengal as a rising growth engine in eastern India, shifting the focus firmly towards prosperity and progress. @thetrid.ent
