In a shocking incident during the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, reports emerged from Falta in the Diamond Harbour area where the BJP candidate's button on an EVM was blocked with tape at Booth 177 in Debipur. BJP workers and candidate Debangshu Panda, who was touring polling stations, raised alarms over the deliberate obstruction, claiming it was an attempt to prevent voters from choosing their party. Eyewitness videos circulating on social media showed the tape covering the BJP symbol, sparking immediate outrage among opposition supporters who accused TMC workers, often referred to as Mamata Banerjee’s goons, of interfering with the voting process. The BJP has termed it a clear case of "vote chori" or vote theft, demanding swift action from the Election Commission. The Election Commission has taken note of the complaint and ordered an enquiry into the matter, warning that any confirmed tampering could lead to a repoll at the affected booth. This episode has intensified the already heated political atmosphere in Bengal, with the BJP alleging it fits a pattern of intimidation and rigging by the ruling Trinamool Congress to suppress opposition votes. @thetrid.ent
