To celebrate this day I'd like to talk about this wonder of a book, and also highlight a few other books translated from the Telugu(my mother tongue). Translated from the Telugu, The Liberation of Sita by Volga is a retelling of the Hindu epic Ramayana told from Lady Sita's perspective. It follows her journey after being abandoned by her husband Lord Rama. Along the way she meets other women like her who have been broken free from the shackles of being a "dutiful" wife/daughter/sister. It is a remarkably written retelling that not only gives you the perspectives of the characters that are most often brushed aside but also is supremely liberating and inspiring. It reminds women that they are not to limit themselves to their roles as mothers/wifes/daughters, that we are our own person and that we are, as Volga puts it, "part of the wider world". 🙌🏾 . Here are other books that have been translated from the Telugu language that you can check out: •Yashodara by Volga •Swarajyam by Mahidhara Ramamohanarao •Short Stories from Andhra Pradesh by Malathi Nidadavolu •Thousand Hoods by Viswanatha Satyanarayana •Ha Ha Hu Hu: A Horse-headed God in Trafalgar Square by Viswanatha Satyanarayana . QOTD: Mention a book(s) written in your mother language that you love? ☺️
