QOTD: An author whose work you've discovered this year? . 📗The Boy From the Woods by Harlen Coben "Thirty years ago, a child was found in the New Jersey backwoods. He had been living a feral existence, with no memory of how he got there or even who he is. Everyone just calls him Wilde. Now a former soldier and security expert, he lives off the grid, shunned by the community – until they need him." . This was my first ever Harlen Coben, I had heard about how engaging his writing is, how he keeps you guessing, and with this book I was able to finally experience that thrill for myself. 👍🏽➕ •I was immediately pulled in by the author's writing, it's simple yet effective. •The story is told through multiple povs and yet it flowed without hindrance. •It is not only an engaging thriller but also one that gives you a sneak peak into the political world and how dirty and ruthless it really is. •The first big twist during the climax was expected by me but I definitely didn't see the next/last one coming, it was completely unexpected too. Apparently this is a virtue of the author, and he is known as the "master of the double twist". 👎🏽➖ •The story has multiple sub plots in it and although I didn't mind that aspect I wish the author had paid more attention because all that busyness in the story did leave a couple of minor plotholes. •There was also a particular incident in the story which could have led to a new arc for a particular side character but one that ultimately wasn't assimilated into the plot and one I think could have made the storyline better. •Some reviews online mention that if you've read Coben's previous books you may not enjoy this as much as those, so keep that in mind if you aren't a Harlen Coben virgin like I was. . All in all, it was a really good thriller read for me. I think there's going to be a sequel and I for one am definitely looking forward to it. 😊 . Thank you @netgalley and @penguinrandomhouse for providing me with a *free e-arc. . *All opinions stated are honest and my own.
