QOTD: Do you read family sagas? Which is your favourite? 😊 . I bought Those Pricey Thakur Girls during one of those freak online sales, the ones where you see huge discounts and add a thousand books to your cart like a kid on a sugar high. It has been sitting on my shelves unread for a few years and I finally read it as a part of the #discoveringindiareadathon I'm currently participating in. This was a quick and an entertaining read. An Indian family saga that gives off major Pride and Prejudice vibes, this book was chock full of 80s nostalgia, and quirky family spats. Debjani Thakur, aka Dabbu, the mc was very relatable to me as a 23yr old struggling to find her place in this big scary world, trying to figure out where her life's headed, and the obvious pressure of "settling down" every twenty something old girl faces from her desi parents. Dylan Singh Shekhawat, our flirty hero, plays his part well as a daring and talented journalist. The chemistry between these two was well developed, despite being insta-lovey. Dylan's work on the anti-sikh riots was one of my favourite elements of this book, I loved that the author highlighted this important time in our country's history and how well she managed to blend a serious topic into an otherwise easy-going story. The secondary characters of the book played out their parts well too, I especially loved Eshwari, the younger sister of Dabbu. Judge saab/BJ, Dabbu's father, was also a favourite and has entered my list of favourite fictional dads. All in all, this book is an uncomplicated read with simple to understand writing and ample of amusing characters. I do recommend you pick it up, especially if you love family sagas, and the humourous drama that desi families bring with them. 😁 . . . . . @readingunderthelamp your bookstack pictures inspired me to recreate my own. Thank you! 🤗
