QOTD: A sequel that disappointed you? . Puddin' by Julie Murphy isn't a sequel per se but a book set in the same universe as Dumplin'. It follows a dual pov of Millie and Callie, both of whom we previously met in Dumplin'. The book alternates between the two and out of them my favourite had to be Millie, because she was more relatable as a character. We get to see Millie's journey post the events of the pageant, her journey of trying to find herself, trying to finally accept her body, her struggles to keep the friend group intact(and maybe get another member included), and her working towards her dream of becoming an on-screen journalist by applying for a journalism summer camp instead of the fat camp she's been going to for years(much to her mom's dismay). Callie from the start didn't vibe with me. Her bratty, unremorseful attitude was too annoying, and her fatphobic comments didn't help her cause either. She does change for the better, somewhat, towards the end but my dislike for her had already been pretty established by then for my opinion to change. 😐 The reason I picked up this book was Millie, and I was satisfied on that part, but what I didn't care for or want was Callie, and that ruined it for me. I also went into the book thinking it to focus on a f/f relationship and I was disappointed on that aspect too. Although they do talk about it a little, it is not one of the major plotlines. 😕 Anywho, if you've read and liked Dumplin' and want to pick up Puddin', I'd say skip it(unless you really want to read it). You could read it for Millie though, because let's face it, she's the best, and we all deserve a Millie in our lives. ☺️ . I'm also changing my initial rating of it from 3.75/5 🌟 to 3.25/5 🌟.
